Road to Nowhere: A #ScienceFiction #Thriller by Evan Shapiro

Road to Nowhere

by Evan Shapiro

Genre: Cli-Fi (climate fiction), SciFi, Mystery, Thriller, Satire

Is humanity on a Road to Nowhere?

What forces are at play behind global warming and its threat to every
species? Is humanity irrevocably heading down a Road to Nowhere?

This near future page-turner, weaves conspiracy, murder, genius and love
into a fast-paced ride across the globe, through the absurd and beyond.

Patrick, Kirby, Ancient and Costas thrust us into the world of corporate
juggernaut, PetroSynth, where science, politics and corruption jostle
to determine our future. How can so much power over our planet be in
the hands of so few?

“This book is the stuff of modern mythology, an exciting adventure with
intricate personalities leaving the reader in a state of agitated
‘not knowing’ until the very end. Can we succeed (we are all in
this one together) or will the corporates and their minions win out
only to abandon the planet in crisis? A racy and worthwhile read
capturing the zeitgeist of our times.”

Ian Cohen – first Green MLC, NSW Parliament and Author of ‘Green Fire’

MORE REVIEWS

"What makes this debut novel from Evan Shapiro a thoroughly engrossing read
is that it is hard to pigeon hole into any particular genre. Part
science fiction, thriller, mystery and romp. A fun and at times
gritty ride. It's a page turner written with insight, irreverence and
is an apt observation of humanity's capacity for suffering and
destruction, yet with potential to make a positive change." ~ G King

"‘Road To Nowhere’ gives us a thought-provoking glimpse into an
uncompromising future that brilliantly juxtaposes futuristic hedonism
with the bare fundamentals of human frailty." ~ M Jury

Goodreads * Amazon

The second of four children born to would-be bohemians, Evan grew up on a
diet of independent cinema, junk TV, Shakespeare and chocolate
biscuits. As a toddler he drank Dettol and shampoo and stuck forks
into power-points. Growing up he was often reminded by his family
that he was lucky to have survived past the age of five. While his
parents blamed him for being dangerously active and carelessly
inquisitive, he lays the responsibility squarely at their feet for
repeatedly leaving Dettol, shampoo and forks within his grasp.

He likes to define the resulting confusion from his upbringing as his
'perspective' which he now relentlessly channels into works of fiction.

These day's he likes to prod people instead of power-points. He lives in
Sydney and divides his time between co-parenting, fixing his father's
TV settings, changing his mother's light bulbs, graphic design work,
writing and meditation. He claims to have found the secret to perfect
parenting, but as the answer is endless patience he's not sure it's
any use to anyone.

The Last Flag (Race the Dead Book 1): A #Dystopian #Thriller by Wren Cavanagh

The Last Flag
Race the Dead Book 1

by Wren Cavanagh

Genre: Dystopian Horror, Thriller

What would you do to pay the bills; to survive, or to just get rich, would
you compete against other teams in a quarantined town filthy with
zombies wanting to bite out your throat?

Emma and Lewis sign up for the race, they need the money to save his life.
But they won't just be racing the dead, the surprise blizzard or the
other contestants.

Because anger and vengeance know no bounds and like everyone in the blighted
town they become pawns in a game of retribution.

The contestants become nothing more than live entertainment to viewers
who watch and judge their every move in the town of Prideful as they
race each other to arrive alive to a final flag. The team that makes
will get airlifted out alive and go back home richer for it, the
others walk back to a pittance and if they are not careful. They
won't get out at all.

Wren Cavanagh, that would be me. Also writes under the pen name Junior Sokolov.

An artist and writer from great North West.

I am grateful that I have this opportunity to share my work and
imagination with you. Growing up my head was always stuck in a book
or a comic book (before they got fancy and got the moniker "graphic novels").

More often than not those books were filled with monsters, werewolves and vampires.

Then the likes of Godzilla showed up along with their brethren, born from
the very justified fear of the atomic bomb and its consequences.

And that is what I love. Escaping into worlds of monsters and heroes, and
sometimes they are one and the same!

Letting my imagination run along and bring into the narrative what I see
around me everyday.

I hope that you will enjoy my stories. Find in them a temporary and
enjoyable escape of your own.

Into the Mist
Taine McKenna Adventures Book 1

by Lee Murray

Genre: SciFi Action, Thriller

When NZDF Sergeant Taine McKenna and his squad are tasked with escorting a
bunch of civilian contractors into Te Urewera National Park, it seems
a strange job for the army.

Militant Tūhoe separatists are active in the area, and with its cloying mist
and steep ravines, the forest is a treacherous place in winter.

Yet nothing has prepared Taine for the true danger that awaits them.
Death incarnate.

They backtrack toward civilisation, stalked by a prehistoric creature
intent on picking them off one by one. With their weapons
ineffective, the babysitting job has become a race for survival.

Desperate to bring his charges out alive, Taine draws on ancient tribal wisdom.
Will it be enough to stop the nightmare? And when the mist clears,
will anyone be left?

Goodreads * Amazon

Into the Sounds
Taine McKenna Adventures Book 2

On leave, and out of his head with boredom, NZDF Sergeant Taine McKenna
joins biologist Jules Asher, on a Conservation Department deer
culling expedition to New Zealand’s southernmost national park,
where soaring peaks give way to valleys gouged from clay and rock,
and icy rivers bleed into watery canyons too deep to fathom. Despite
covering an area the size of the Serengeti, only eighteen people live
in the isolated region, so it’s a surprise when the hunters stumble
on the nation’s Tūrehu tribe, becoming some of only a handful to
ever encounter the elusive ghost people. But a band of mercenaries
saw them first, and, hell-bent on exploiting the tribes’ survivors,
they’re prepared to kill anyone who gets in their way. As a
soldier, McKenna is duty-bound to protect all New Zealanders, but
after centuries of persecution will the Tūrehu allow him to help
them? Besides, there is something else lurking in the sounds, and it
has its own agenda. When the waters clear, will anyone be allowed to leave?

“Murray pretty much nails small unit tactics.” ‒ Justin Coates, author of
The Apocalypse Drive

“A fantastic blend of military fiction, a very real primordial monster,
and powerful mythology.” ‒ Paul Mannering, author of Hard Corps,
Hell’s Teeth, and Eat.

Goodreads * Amazon

Into the Ashes
Taine McKenna Adventures Book 3

No longer content to rumble in anger, the great mountain warriors of New
Zealand’s central plateau, the Kāhui Tupua, are preparing again
for battle. At least, that’s how the Māori elders tell it. The
nation’s leaders scoff at the danger. That is; until the ground
opens and all hell breaks loose. The armed forces are hastily
deployed; NZDF Sergeant Taine McKenna and his section tasked with
evacuating civilians and tourists from Tongariro National Park. It is
too little, too late. With earthquakes coming thick and fast and the
mountains spewing rock and ash, McKenna and his men are cut off.
Their only hope of rescuing the stranded civilians is to find another
route out, but a busload of prison evacuees has other ideas. And,
deep beneath the earth’s crust, other forces are stirring.

“INTO THE ASHES is a kick-ass thriller with twists you will never see
coming! Lee Murray serves up a nail-biter of a weird-science action
adventure. Brava!” —Jonathan Maberry, New York Times best-selling
author of DEEP SILENCE and V-WARS
