Got a new tablet…
I bought myself a Windows 10 tablet that I can work from. I can have all my favorite apps on here that I use for writing, planning, and scheduling. It’s a nice one too. It came with a detachable keyboard, so it’s more like a miniature laptop that I can also use like a tablet. It’s working out perfectly for me
Now that I don’t have to share a computer with my daughter, I can write anywhere and anytime I want. Most days I just work from the sofa on a laptop desk I’ve got. It’s comfy and it’s perfect for my bad days.
Worked out a new schedule…
I’ve also worked out a new schedule for myself. I focus on writing on Monday through Thursday. I downloaded this cool app called To-Do Prime, and I set specific tasks for each day so even if I’m having a brain fog day, I don’t feel overwhelmed with trying to work out what I’m doing on each project each day.
I’ve gone back to working on multiple projects at a time…again…
Every time I try focusing on one project at a time, I end up having issues. It’s pretty obvious to me now that I do better when I work on multiple projects. So each day I set jobs for each project. Each day I’ll write or edit a chapter in my novel or novella series I’m currently working on. I’m also going to set jobs each day for my current serial and short story I’m working on. Plus each week I’m going to write a new flash fiction that I can post on Fridays that I don’t have a spotlight scheduled. I’ll also use some of those as exclusives on my monthly newsletters.
On Friday, I do all my promo work and scheduling posts. And on Mondays, I post about my progress now and announce my goals for the coming week in a new feature called New This Week.
It’s nice having a set feature for each day on my blog. It makes writing and scheduling posts for the following week so much easier. I only have two days where I don’t have something scheduled to leave room for guest posts and blog tours.
Now that I’m so organized again, and can work any time of the day, I feel like a huge weight has been lifted. It’s amazing how such a little thing can make such a huge difference.
This month’s question…
How do you celebrate when you achieve a writing goal / finish a story?
Generally, when I finish a story, I bake myself a cake. I love cake, but I don’t have it very often. Too much sugar doesn’t agree with me. I especially love chocolate mud cake or devil’s food. Having a slice of that with a scoop of vanilla ice cream is the most amazing thing ever.
Now that I have my weekly goals to meet, I should think of something to do for meeting those goals. A cake each week would just be too much, but I should do something special for myself.
