What a busy month…
This month has been absolutely crazy. Despite getting sick twice, I got more writing done this month than I have in a long time. What makes it truly amazing for me is that for the last two years, I’ve had a hard time writing this time of the year because it’s when my brain fog seems to hit the hardest.
Well, it has been affecting me, but my work in finding a system that works for me (mostly because it uses my strengths to overcome my weaknesses) has made such a huge difference for me. If you’re interested in reading about my new system, I’m blogging about it every Sunday. You can catch Step 1 here.
In April, I participated in Camp NaNoWriMo. I set my goal at 25k, and now I’m hoping I’ll be able to reach it (it’s still the 27th of April while I’m writing this). I was doing so well until the last few days when I got really sick again. Now I’ve got the next 3 days to get caught up. I only have a bit over 4k left to write, so I should be able to do that.
What have I got planned for May?
A lot more writing!
By the end of May, I should be on:
- Step 18 of my writing process for Episodes 21 – 24 of my Shadow Stalker serial (there are 20 Steps in total and includes everything from the planning process to editing).
- Step 13 for my new serial Emergence.
- Step 14 for a new short story and getting ready to publish another.
- Step 7 for the middle-grade series I’m planning to write based on my Shadow Stalker serial (at my daughter’s request).
- The first draft of Book 3 Chapter 4 for my A God’s Deception series and finish up the first draft of Book 2.
I’ll also have May’s short story to write for the 12 Short Stories Challenge.
Book to Movie…
No, not me! An author friend of mine has plans to get one of his books, Hell Holes, made into a movie, so I wanted to share it with you. It’s an incredible book. I highly recommend it.
Hell Hole Movie
Read the Movie Script
The Hell Hole movie script was based on Hell Holes: What Lurks Below, the first book in my Hell Holes series of science fiction and horror novels. Note that it is Leland Jay Anderson’s creative re-imagining of the book rather than a faithful retelling of the original book. After Leland wrote the original script, I updated his script to produce the final version that you can now purchase as an ebook for only $1.99:

Pitching My Book
Back in early April 2017, I had the opportunity to pitch my first Hell Holes book, Hell Holes: What Lurks Below, to Hollywood producer and script writer, Michael Chamoy (photo on the left). Mike is best known for his work on The Incredible Hulk movie and the science fiction TV series, Alphas. The following week, Mike and Hollywood Producer, Nat Mundel (photo on the right), contacted me stating that they would like to produce a full-length feature film based on the book. Roughly a week later, I granted them one year’s “shopping rights” to the book. That essentially gave them one year after the completion of the associated script in which to find funding from a studio and investors.
This Months Question…
It’s spring! Does this season inspire you to write more than others, or not?
Well, actually, for me it’s autumn. I live in Australia, the land Downunder, and our seasons are opposite the ones of the northern hemisphere.
Oddly, this time of year I usually have a hard time writing, but not this year. As I mentioned earlier, my new writing process has helped me to overcome the obstacles that have been standing in my way, mainly the brain fog and constantly getting sick.
It helps with the brain fog by breaking the work down into smaller jobs that require less thinking on my part. I slowly build on the story a little at a time so that I’m not overwhelmed with too much at one time. I’ve been using it for two months now and it’s been working incredibly for me.
It helps when I get sick too, even though I generally don’t get much work done while I’m sick. My biggest problem there has been that when I get sick, it’s hard to get back into the swing of things when I’m well again. With all the steps spelled out, I can easily pick up where I left off and it doesn’t take me long to get caught up again either.
I’ve had a lot of people ask me to share my new writing process, so I’ve begun posting about it every Sunday. If you have trouble keeping yourself on track with writing, it might help you too. Step 1 is here. There are 20 Steps in all that go from planning the story all the way through the editing process.
Hope you all have a great month! Happy Writing!
